Here I sit, poised to write something witty and entertaining about my life. The moments I hope to capture in this blog happen multiple times daily, but nothing is happening right now, because it's just me and 5 hairy beasts (the dogs - I will do my best not to refer to my 5 male offspring as 'hairy beasts'). So, instead, I will provide an introduction to my blog.
For the past several years, ever since I gave up on Livejournal, I have been capturing these memories via Facebook. I reserve the right to unashamedly copy and paste past memories into this blog on slow days. I also plan to post things here that I otherwise wouldn't on Facebook; due to the kids' embarrassment potential or maybe it just isn't quite appropriate, or not the right audience, etc. I try to maintain high levels of political correctness on Facebook, due to the wide variety of friends and family who cannot get enough photos of my children (am I right!?), but no such luck here, sirs and madams.
Most blogs annoy me. I hate overly wordy, pretentious or even borderline pretentious posts, particularly if all I'm trying to do is see the damn recipe. Why do I have to hear about how much your child's soccer coach's mother loved the bread you made, along with 39482 photos of the bread from every angle? Just give me the flipping recipe before I lose interest. So, maybe here's my MO for this blog: a quick LOL at the comedy of errors/cautionary tale my life tends to be with 6 kids, 5 dogs, and a heaping bucketful of the ability to laugh at most situations. No need for photos of THAT recipe, but you might get them anyway. Illustrations can be fun!
A final word: the title of my blog. I was going to go with 'Bantastic' because that's how I like to describe my family and life. 'Fantastic' is defined as "imaginative or fanciful", "so extreme as to challenge belief", "wonderful or superb, remarkable". My life is all these things, and since my last name is Banta, you can put two and two together: it's a play on words! I love plays on words! But 'Bantasticality' seemed much more fitting for this blog title, so there it is.
